I went to see The Other Boleyn Girl the other night. I went into it with the assumption that it was going to be another film that I wouldn’t understand. After being dragged to The Queen, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, and Atonement in the past, I thought this was going to be another historical chick flick disaster, especially because I usually find medieval or historical British films extremely dry, stuffy, and incredibly boring.

Natalie Portman stars as Anne Boleyn, an attractive young woman, who fights for the affection of King Henry VIII (played by Eric Bana) with her sister, Mary Boleyn (played by Scarlett Johansson). Anne and Mary are invited to come live at the Royal Court, and King Henry’s wife feels rightfully threatened by them because she has had no luck in producing a male heir to the throne and thinks he may try with one of them.

Through a series of events and plot twists throughout the movie, he ends up getting both of them pregnant. Mary has a boy, but because he’s still married to the queen, the child is illegitimate. He then fathers a child, a daughter, with Anne. King Henry is obviously mad they had a daughter and not a son, but we later learn that she grows up to be Queen Elizabeth I.

There are a number of accusations towards the end of the film, and Anne and her brother end up being beheaded. This was a fascinating movie, and although there were some historical inaccuracies, it was great. I was very pleasantly surprised.

This guy does a great cover of one of my favorite songs, “Look After You” by The Fray.” I’m slowly picking up guitar and have been trying to learn to play this one for a while. Hopefully I’ll be this good one day!

I went to see Drillbit Taylor the other night. Starring Owen Wilson, the film portrays a laid back homeless man (Drillbit Taylor) who is trying to make it to Canada to start a new life. With no other options for a job, Taylor hears about three high school freshmen who need an affordable body guard to protect them from the wrath of some older bullies at school. He comes to their school and blends in as a teacher, even dating one of the other teachers. His laziness and lack of attention leads to his non-effectiveness as a body guard.

He proceeds to train the three boys to defend themselves, but his tactics prove unsuccessful. In order to make more money, Taylor claims to need to collect defense supplies from the boys’ houses to use in training, but instead pawns them at a local shop.

I was pleasantly surprised at how great this movie was, and found myself laughing hysterically throughout a lot of the film. Still, it was a little long and drawn out. If you’re looking for a great laugh-out-loud comedy, definitely check this one out.

Joshua Jackson plays Benjamin Shaw in this suspenseful drama that follows a couple on their honeymoon to Japan. Shaw is a professional photographer and plans on working while they’re on their trip. The couple hits a girl walking down the road to the cabin they’ll be staying in for the week with their car and feel horrible about it.

Then the couple begins to experience paranormal behavior when they take pictures at the cabin and notice strange things in the pictures when they’re developed. The first picture seems to resemble a ghastly looking woman kissing Shaw. The paranormal pictures just get more and more haunting from there.

In the end, it is revealed that the girl in all the pictures is a woman who Shaw dated before he met his wife who became obsessed with him. When he didn’t return her love, she stalked him and would not leave him alone. In a flashback, you see that one night in the past, under the influence of alcohol, he drugged the woman and posed her with friends of his for scandalous pictures. She is killed and it’s revealed later that she comes back to haunt Shaw and his wife only to warn her of his past evil ways that she would have otherwise never known about.

I’m finally catching up on reviewing all the movies I’ve seen over the past few months. The first I wanted to review is Vantage Point. Dennis Quaid gives a great performance as an FBI agent sent to protect the president at a speaking engagement in Spain. The president is shot, and the story is told from the vantage point of eight different people.

While it was an interesting idea, the movie felt a lot like the movie Groundhog Day, where the same day is played out over and over again. This sort of monotony took the drama out of the movie if you ask me. But still, it was rather interesting. The final vantage point, after seeing some from people in the crowd, FBI agents, etc., is that of the president.

The twist is that you see in the end that it was actually his body double that got shot because his aides heard about the threat of violence before the arrived. Overall, not a bad movie, but I’ve also seen a lot better.

Me and Jen hung out after dinner at Monroe Park and played frisbee for a while. We had a squirrel friend, too. Nothing more to say, just a fun, chilled out Spring evening with my best friend. What could be better? Here’s a few pictures uploaded from the iPhone:

So my parents and sister just left for a week long trip to New York City. I’ve got this big, lonely house to myself, and apparently they think I just may parish without a detailed instruction list of things for me to do this week. Actually, on second thought, I really don’t blame them at all, knowing me! So today for Music Monday, I wanted to feature something a little different from what I normally post. I like a lot of dance music, mainly after discovering the BPM channel on XM Radio in my car late last year. A lot of people who hear it in my car quickly say “I don’t like techno,” and, well it’s dance music. Techno is completely different. I don’t like techno all that much either. But I love dance music, and this one’s a great tune from world-renowned DJ David Guetta, featuring the vocals of Chris Willis. This one will get you on your feet.
