No Radio Show For Now

By radio show

So you might have noticed I’ve quietly removed most references to the radio show I was originally going to have. With work and all the other things I have going on, it just isn’t feasible at this point. Plus my chosen co-host, Rochelle, also has a full plate and it would be difficult to schedule weekly time together that fit between our commitments.

I’ve received many comments and emails of encouragement for the radio show, and I really appreciate everyone’s support. Sometime in the future it will eventually happen, just not right now. There’s technology out there that could allow me to give Rochelle a microphone and have her record with me from JMU in the fall, live via an audio chat. It would sound the same as if she were in the room with me. So, that’s a possibility. Again, though, thanks for everyone’s interest and for reading my daily blog posts.

Introducing The Complex Simplicity Radio Show (And My Future Co-Host, Rochelle)

By radio show

So the “Ghost Writer” who’s been writing on my blog is finally being revealed. I’m starting a new weekly radio show with the same name, Complex Simplicity, in May. Her name is Rochelle. She’s a sophomore at JMU. I met her at RCC early last year and have since kept in pretty much constant contact with her. Sometimes for a few hours a day on the phone. The fact that I’m not even a phone person (with anyone) and I always have something to talk about with her, sometimes for hours, is astounding to me. Enough so that I thought it’d be a pretty cool idea to have her as co-host of my show I’m bringing back. You might remember the show I had before with another one of my friends, “Evolution Of Thought.” This is a revival of that concept, but it’ll be exponentially better this time. I have big plans for this. But I’m starting small.

Rochelle will bring a multitude of creativity, charisma, and insight to the table. She’s a sweet girl and a lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to working with her on this project that’s really a fulfillment of a long-time dream I’ve had to get a real radio show going via podcast.

Jason Paige, former Q94 disc jockey and voiceover talent for many Richmond area radio advertisements (including big names like King’s Dominion) recorded an intro for it a while back and it sounds awesome. I’m stoked to get this thing on the air!

Music Monday: David Guetta – “Love Is Gone”

By Uncategorized

So today for Music Monday, I wanted to feature something a little different from what I normally post. I like a lot of dance music, mainly after discovering the BPM channel on XM Radio in my car late last year. A lot of people who hear it in my car quickly say “I don’t like techno,” and, well it’s dance music. Techno is completely different. I don’t like techno all that much either. But I love dance music, and this one’s a great tune from world-renowned DJ David Guetta, featuring the vocals of Chris Willis. This one will get you on your feet.

Winning Streak

By Uncategorized

I must be on a winning streak. I somehow won something else. I was informed by email this morning by a local radio station that I won tickets to see Blind Melon in concert tonight at The National downtown. I don’t think I can go, though, so I’m giving the tickets away. You might remember their song “No Rain” from the ’90s. I’ll post the video below. Wish I could go to the show, they’ve done some really good stuff.

Free Swag From Mix 103-7

By Uncategorized

So I got an email that I won a prize pack of free stuff from Mix 103-7 for, well, I don’t even remember. I think I took a survey a while back to rate the music they play online. Anyway, I drove all the way down to Midlothian to get my stuff, and here’s what was inside the bag (with their logo printed on it): A t-shirt, coffee mug, plastic cup, magnetic clip, and fridge magnet. I mean I can’t complain because it’s free stuff, but I drove to southside for a bag of promotional goodies so that I can sport items with their logo on them and help Cox Radio garner more listeners? Appears that way. Oh well, it was free!

The True Meaning Of Christmas

By Uncategorized

With just a couple days left until Christmas, and the hecticness that brings, it’s important to remember the true meaning of Christmas: that God sent his one and only son to save us all from our sinful ways. In lieu of the Song Of The Week, watch this powerful video of a little boy named Logan calling into a Christian radio station who reminds us of the real reason for the season.

Haul Out The Holly

By Uncategorized

I love Christmas. I’m about as Christmas crazy as anyone can get. Some refer to me as Clark Griswold from Christmas Vacation because of all the lights I string up on the house every year. I have a couple hundred Christmas songs I load onto my iPod every year. But despite how much I love the season, I just don’t think I can take it this early. Beginning this Thursday, XM Satellite Radio will launch its annual contemporary Christmas music channel, Holly, and will play 24/7 Christmas songs for two straight months on up until New Year’s Day. Christmas is coming earlier and earlier every year. At this rate, it’ll be Christmas all year long in a decade or two. Even I get burnt out on holiday music after two months. I have XM. I love XM. I love Christmas music. But I just don’t think I’ll be listening to channel 103 for a month or so until the day after Thanksgiving. Here’s an article from local media website VARTV about the holiday channel.

XM Satellite Radio will kick off the holiday music season on Thursday, November 1 with “Holly: An XM Holiday Channel” on XM channel 103. It’s mainstream holiday music. “Holly blends contemporary holiday music with just a touch of the classics for the perfect mix of Christmases present and memories from Christmases past,” states XM on its website. XM will be adding an additional five channels of holiday music come Monday, November 19 thru Christmas day. To make room for those new channels, XM is putting XM17 (US Country), XM29 (U-Pop), XM80 (The Move), XM90 (Fuego), and XM113 (XM Pops) on hiatus.
