Flock – The Social Web Browser

By technology

I heard about a relatively new web browser today designed for today’s increasingly interactive interweb (screenshot from my computer above). The advent of Web 2.0 has brought a new meaning to the web. There’s an increasing amount of interconnectivity between different Web 2.0-based social networking sites like Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, and Twitter. This browser, Flock, connects them all together into one easy-to-use browser. Once you set up your accounts, there are tabs in a sidebar that allow you to simultaneously access each of the aforementioned social networking sites.

Friends’ updates appear instantly, and you can click “media” next to their status updates to see their photos in the media bar (the dark area with photos at the top of the browser in the screenshot). There’s even one-click access to create a new blog post in your blog once you set it up. I tried using that for my blog, and although it worked, it lacked the functionality I need to add formatting and other elements such as pictures to my posts. Their blog editor is very basic.

I use Safari currently, but thought I’d give Flock a try. I’m impressed by the interconnectivity and this is a great idea for people such as myself who are [way too] connected to Facebook, Flickr, and YouTube and find themselves multitasking multiple social networking sites at once. I’m not sure if I’ll keep using it or just stick with Safari, mainly because I already have Safari set up just how I like it, but we’ll see. It’s a very cool concept and has Firefox-like theme and extension features. It’s available for download on Mac, Windows, and Linux. Give it a try, eh?

2008 Deep Run Marathon Dance Opening & Closing Videos

By Uncategorized

I finally figured out how to compress these videos for YouTube and still have them look relatively decent. I made them for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Deep Run Marathon Dance and had a ton of fun doing it! Can’t wait for next year.

Opening Video (shown at the opening ceremony to dancers to get them pumped up for the 27 hours ahead):

Closing Video (includes charity interviews, dance footage (cut out for YouTube time restraints), and a dramatic grand total at the end):

Fun With Styrofoam At RCC

By Uncategorized

What’s the best way to clean styrofoam out of a huge building? Ride it down the steps, of course! This is absolutely hilarious and we had so much fun doing it. Check it out (and make sure you have your sound on to hear all the ridiculous stuff we said)!

Music Monday: Third Eye Blind – “Semi-Charmed Life”

By Uncategorized

“Semi-Charmed Life” by Third Eye Blind is probably on the top five list of my all-time favorite songs. There’s nothing better, in my opinion, than mid-1990s alternative rock, specifically 1996 and 1997, had some of the best music ever. I liked this song so much back in ’96 that I bought it and it was my first cassette tape (that’s right, not CD but tape). It’s still just as awesome today, twelve years later, and brings back lots of great memories. Take a listen.

Merry Tossmas!

Retailers send out all sorts of “holiday” catalogs and have numerous “holiday” displays, but few if any have anything to say about Christmas. Over 90% of Americans celebrate Christmas, and I don’t think the other 10% would be offended. The only group retailers are offending is the vast majority that celebrate Christmas. Stuart Shepard shows us in this video the special holiday he’s created in his household just for the retailers.

Song Of The Week – Pat Monahan – “Her Eyes”

By Uncategorized

This is without a doubt my absolute favorite song right now. It’s the best I’ve heard in a long time. It’s the first single off Pat Monahan’s solo album. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the name, he’s the lead singer from Train. Forgive the joke, but he’s “derailed” for a bit and plans to “climb back aboard” with the band after this solo album. Anyway, let me get “back on track.” The song’s called “Her Eyes.” Check it out!
